There is no bad season in Gulmarg, only different ones. Pick by what you want to see: snow, flowers or quiet autumn light.
December to March: snow season
Gulmarg is under snow and the ski season runs. Expect freezing nights; Drung Waterfall can partly freeze. Book early for Christmas, New Year and February weekends. Heavy snowfall can pause the upper Gondola.
April to June: spring and meadows
Snow melts from the lower slopes, streams run full and the meadows turn green with wildflowers. Pleasant days and cool nights make this the most popular family season. Snow often remains near Apharwat Peak into early summer.
July to September: summer
Warm days and green forests. Occasional rain showers. A good time for walks to Khilanmarg and picnics by Ferozpur Nallah.
October to November: autumn
Clear skies, golden leaves and fewer visitors. Nights turn cold by November. A quiet, good-value time to stay.
