Drung Waterfall
A roadside waterfall in the forest just off the Tangmarg road. In spring it runs full with snowmelt; in the coldest weeks of winter it partly freezes into ice columns. Go early to avoid the crowds.
Gulmarg Gondola
Phase 1 runs from Gulmarg (about 2,650 m) to Kongdoori (about 3,088 m); Phase 2 continues to Apharwat Peak at about 3,979 m, one of the highest cable cars in the world. Book on the official J&K Cable Car Corporation site for current timings and tickets.
Gulmarg meadow
The wide bowl of Gulmarg itself, with walking trails, pony rides, the old St Mary's Church and the hilltop Maharani Temple. Snow-covered from about December to March and green in summer.
Khilanmarg
A higher meadow reached on foot or by pony from Gulmarg, with open views of the Pir Panjal range and, on clear days, Nanga Parbat. Snowbound in winter.
Skiing and snow play
Gulmarg is India's best-known ski area. Beginners can hire gear and instructors at the base; experienced skiers use the Gondola for high slopes. Sledging and snow play are easy for families.
Baba Reshi Shrine
A peaceful 15th-century Sufi shrine in the forest near Tangmarg, visited by people of all faiths. Dress modestly and remove your shoes inside.
Ferozpur Nallah
A clear mountain stream running through the valley below Gulmarg, good for a picnic and a quiet walk by the water in summer.
Tangmarg market
Stock up on warm clothes, gloves and snow boots at far better prices than up in Gulmarg, and try local bakery bread and kahwa.
Getting around Gulmarg
